So Dirk went 24/24 on free throws last night. Here were the worst ft shooters in the NBA this past season. Most players are scrubs, but there are enough of them to warrant all the glory Dirk is receiving from last nights perfect trip to the free throw line.
Free throws are just that, free. Every NBA player that fails to connect on at least 70% of their free throws needs to go practice free throws. They should be the easiest points you score.
I understand the reverence paid to Dirk this morning and last night, he was unconscious and no one on OKC could match up against him. Out of 39 shots he took last night, he only missed three. It’s still pretty sad this amount of free throw perfection hasn’t been equaled up until now.
The guy Dirk replaced in the playoff record book, Paul Pierce, was 21/21 on free throws in a playoff game in 2003. Dirk also surpassed the all-time free-throws hit without a miss in ANY NBA regulation game, passing the Human Highlight Film, Dominique Wilkins, who hit 23 consecutive free throws in a 1992 game.
Adding to the free throw lore of last night, Dirk passed Michal Jordan’s record for most free throws hit in a playoff regulation game. Jordan was 23/28 in a win over the Knicks in 1989. Say it with me now: "Whoa!"
Bob Cousy once hit 30/30 in a 1952 quadruple overtime game.
