The NBA Dribbled Out

Simple, borderline arbitrary, gifs to explain who won and lost last night:

The Celtics lost in Charlotte because they were still tired from their triple OT win over Denver on Sunday (MJ’s Bobcats were the only home team to win in the NBA last night, so it makes sense Byron Mullens would lead them with 25 and 18) CHARLOTTE 94 - Boston 91

The Bucks lost to the visiting Wiz because of Nene (also because Bradley Beal scored a career high 28 points, which is the highest single game point total by a Wizards player all season; John Wall was 5-of-6 from the field with 10 dimes, but he also had 7 turnovers). Washington 102 - MILWAUKEE 90

The ‘Wolves won in Cleveland because of Ricky’s 14 points and 10 assists (Rubio actually had a similar stat line to Wall: shooting 5-of-9 from the field with 7 turnovers, but he also nipped 5 steals, so we’re giving it to him; Luke Ridnour wasn’t bad either: dropping a game high 21 on 9-of-12 shooting; Kyrie couldn’t do it all on his own, but after appearing to sprain his ankle in the second, he came back strong in the second half and finished with 20 points and 9 dimes). Minnesota 100 - CLEVELAND 92

Brook Lopez’s 25 points were the difference in Brooklyn’s big overtime win in Indiana (it was just Indiana’s 5th loss at home this season, and all-star Paul George was 1-for-10 from the field). Brooklyn 89 - INDIANA 84

The Pelicans won in Detroit after Ryan Andersn dropped 31 points, including 5-of-9 from 3, but Anderson did not appreciate Jason Smith’s jumping exuberance after nailing one just before half. New Orleans 105 - DETROIT 86

Chris Paul is back playing for the Clippers, so that meant no starter had to play 30 minutes in Philly (Paul went 9-for-11 from the field for 21 points to go along with 11 dimes; as a team, the Clippers shot over 58 percent from the field and over 42 percent from behind the arc with their leader back in uniform again; they led 56-33 at half, and it  never got competitive in the again). Los Angeles 107 - PHILADELPHIA 90

Tony Parker, Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili didn’t play in Chicago, which doesn’t matter since their coach is Gregg Popovich (Kawhi Leonard led the Spurs with 26 points on 11-for-18 shooting, but he was 3-for-6 from the free throw line, so he’ll probably have to run wind sprints at the practice on Tuesday; Nate Robinson was the only bright spot for the Bulls with 20 points and 7 dimes).  San Antonio 103 - CHICAGO 89

The Hawks beat the Mavericks 105-101 in Dallas, but Josh Smith’s 26 points and 13 boards weren’t the reason. Neither were Al Horford’s 21 and 10 or Jeff Teague’s 21 and 9 assists. It wasn’t Dirk’s 2011 stat line of 24 points on 14 shots, nor was it Darren Collison’s 14 points and 10 assists, or O.J. Mayo’s 19 points; the Hawks won because Cameron Knight hit a halfcourt shot at the end of the first period to win a 60 inch television set. Atlanta 105 - DALLAS 101

Scores from this weekend, as I procrastinate an assignment due later today.

As always, home teams in CAPS.

Friday

PHILADELPHIA 76ERS 99 - Utah Jazz 93

Andrew Bynum really loves cheesesteaks.

INDIANA PACERS 103 - Dallas Mavericks 83

Indy really needed this one.

Orlando Magic 110 - DETROIT PISTONS 106

Battle of ugly.

Oklahoma City Thunder 110 - NEW ORLEANS HORNETS 95

HELLO Kevin Martin.

Golden State Warriors 106 - MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES 98

Is Kevin Love coming back soon? What about Ricky? AK47 can only do so much. Derrick Williams is shooting awful.

MEMPHIS GRIZZLIES 105 - New York Knicks 95

Lost my voice at the bar then got mad with my friends for not understanding; eventually, I just went home with my lady and stayed home for the rest of the weekend. S^%t F%&K!

Atlanta Hawks 112 - SACRAMENTO KINGS 96

Kyle Korver and Jeff Teague were a combined 14/19 from the field.

PORTLAND TRAIL BLAZERS 119 - Houston Rockets 117 in OT

Game of the weekend, we think. Damian Lillard is legit

LOS ANGELES LAKERS 114 - Phoenix Suns 102

Gasol/Howard had a combined 34 points and 22 boards; Kobe had 31 on a very Melo-esque 10/24 from the field.

Saturday

BOSTON CELTICS 107 - Toronto Raptors 89

Rondo’s 20 dimes were nice, but Pierce’s shooting is a good sign for Celtics fans.

Utah Jazz 83 - WASHINGTON WIZARDS 76

Wins the award for ugliest game of the weekend.

Memphis Grizzlies 94 - CHARLOTTE BOBCATS 87

Look at this touch pass from Gasol!!

Dallas Mavericks 103 - CLEVELAND CAVALIERS 95

Overall effort while the Mavericks await Dirk’s return.

MILWAUKEE BUCKS 117 - New Orleans Hornets 113

Anthony Davis is fun.

Also, the Ellis/Jennings backcourt was almost identical in the win.

SAN ANTONIO SPURS 126 - Denver Nuggets 100

Even Duncan swished a three to end the first half.

LOS ANGELES CLIPPERS 101 - Chicago Bulls 80

Vinny Del Negro must have ceded all offensive power to Chris Paul.

Miami Heat 97 - PHOENIX SUNS 88

Chalmers was 5/7 and Bosh 9/11 as the Heat cruised without Wade.

Sunday

NEW YORK KNICKS 88 - Indianapolis Pacers 76

TORONTO RAPTORS 97 - Orlando Magic 86

DeMar DeRozen is a passive aggresive slasher. Glen Davis should never lead you in scoring.

Cleveland Cavaliers 79 - PHILADELPHIA 76ERS 86

I still don’t like Evan Turner, but his 19 points were 5 more than the combined output of Irving, 9 points, and Waiters, 5 points.

Brooklyn Nets 99 - SACRAMENTO KINGS 90

The Nets have won five in a row. I’d be upset by this if the Knicks had lost again this weekend, but for now, I’m just waiting for Brook Lopez to return to earth. He still can’t rebound.

Golden State Warriors 109 - OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER 119

The Thunder blew out the Warriors in the second and third quarters and survived a late-game comeback by the Warriors. Russ finally had a good shooting night, 12/22, and both Ibaka, Durant, and Kevin Martin shot near 50% as well. For a struggling team, the Thunder are 8-3 on the season, but they’re not playing the toughest competition.

Boston Celtics 83 - DETROIT PISTONS 103

The Celtics looked disfunctional all night. Rondo turned the ball over 6 times, but still managed an assist to Jared Sullinger with around a minute left to collect his tenth of the game. It’s his 34th consecutive game with double figure assists, but how he accomplished it was cheap.

Chicago Bulls 94 - PORTLAND TRAIL BLAZERS 102

Nicolas Batum and Wesley Matthews each had 21 points, and Aldridge had 18 and 13.  Chicago got a big game, 18 points, off the bench from Nasty Nate Robinson, but it wasn’t enough to get the win in Oregon.

Houston Rockets 108 - LOS ANGELES LAKERS 119

I’m watching this right now, but Dwight ends up with 28 and 13, and the Lakers have just put up 40 points in the first quarter to outscore the Rockets 40-29. Kobe will end up with a triple-double. Chandler Parsons led the Rockets with 24 points on just 10 shots.

Scores from last night.

Home teams in CAPS.

Memphis Grizzlies 107 - OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER 97

If you didn’t already know, Marc Gasol is my boy, but it was Rudy that did in the Thunder.

LOS ANGELES CLIPPERS 107 - Miami Heat 100

Jamal Crawford is the 6th man of the year, and possibly an all-star.

BOSTON CELTICS 93 - Utah Jazz 93

Jeff Green is all the way back; Rondo had exactly 10 assists again; Pierce finally looked OK.

MILWAUKEE BUCKS 99 - Indiana Pacers 85

Is Monta Ellis the elixir the Bucks always needed?

HOUSTON ROCKETS 100 - New Orleans Hornets 96

Harden dropped 30 again, which only leads me to write, ‘bout time.

Charlotte Bobcats 89 - MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES 87

CHARLOTTE IS ABOVE .500!!!!

DALLA MAVERICKS 107 - Washington Wizards 101

Wiz are the last team in the league without a win.

Chicago Bulls 112 - PHOENIX SUNS 106 in OT

Lost a big lead, than came back to win on the road in OT= Thibodeau victory.

GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS 92 - Atlanta Hawks 88

On the plus side, Hawks fans, Ivan Johnson was 7 for 8 from the field.

Scores and picks from last night, where the Suns were the only team to win on their home court.

Home teams in CAPS.

Utah Jazz 140 - TORONTO RAPTORS 133 in 3 OT

A doozy that must have our Canadian brothers to the North a little depleted today.

Milwaukee Bucks 105 - PHILADELPHIA 76ERS 96

An Eastern Conference clash with more scoring than I expected.

Oklahoma City Thunder 92 - DETROIT PISTONS 90

A snoozer that got exciting for exactly four minutes in the fourth.

Boston Celtics 101 - CHICAGO BULLS 95

A comeback that failed, and a Rondo assist as time expired that kept a streak alive.

Miami Heat 113 - HOUSTON ROCKETS 110

‘Bron has been filthy good this season.

Minnesota Timberwolves 90 - DALLAS MAVERICKS 82

Keeping afloat until the cavalry arrives, and barely staying above water before the cavalry arrives.

PHOENIX SUNS 110 - Denver Nuggets 100

GORAN and 6 other Suns scored in double figures as the Suns team excellence out-did the same for the Nuggets.

Atlanta Hawks 95 - PORTLAND TRAIL BLAZERS 87

From my cuz, who got Comcast so he could watch Blazers games on his television (an excellent lifestyle choice since now we can exchange emails most days): “Blazers 5 loses on the season in 33 words: Early deficit made worse when starters take a rest, spirited comeback in 2nd half makes game close through 3 plus quarters. Starters run out of gas and get out-executed at end of game.”
